Borovets

The biggest and the oldest ski resort in Republic of Bulgaria is called Borovets It is spread on the northern slopes of Rila mountain, 1350 M above sea level. The resort is situated at the foot of Musala Peak which with its 2925 m is the highest on the Balkan Peninsula. Borovets is huddled between venerable coniferous forests and perhaps this is the main reason which makes the climate unique! Mild, snowy winters attract thousands of winter sport lovers and cool summers welcome nature admirers and hikers.

Borovets benefits from its close proximity to the country capital Sofia which is less than an hour drive away. The town of Samokov is the closest settlement and is only 10 km away.

The year of 1896 the Bulgarian King Ferdinand builds his summer residence amidst the glorious hills of nowadays Borovets. This is the year that is considered to be a birth date for the resort. Since then the place is constantly developing and now the resort provides wonderful opportunities for different winter activities, combining the tradition with high class facilities, modern accommodation and distinguished night life . Most of the bars and pubs remain opened till early morning and the smiling stuff makes the visitors feel at home, revealing the secrets of Bulgarian cuisine, music, dances and traditions.

Some places organize Bulgarian folklore nights which are events that should not be missed. Everyone who has witnessed Bulgarian folklore traditions remains enchanted for a life time. This is the time to mention that in a cozy, magic night after an exciting day in the snowy mountain you will surely become a Bulgarian wine lover for life time.

Besides the amazing nature, countless sport opportunities and easy access to the capital and the international airport of Sofia what makes the place special is that it is a start point for many hiking routs. Impatient tourists eagerly wait the end of the snow season to start their hiking tours in Rila mountain.

Borovets ski runs are located in several of different areas around the resort. Cross-country courses and learning centre and the biathlon tracks are located 2 km away from the resort. The ski jumps which are 50 and 75 m high are close and a chair lift is reaching them.

The entire resort is serviced by a well organized system of lifts and tows including an enclosed gondola lift.
Borovets already benefits for equipment for artificial snow

Super Borovets Project

For all the reasons described above along with the undeveloped capacity of the resort, Borovets is an attractive spot for huge investments. The latest plan for one of the most ambitious project called Super Borovets has already came into action.

The project plans to transform the area into a year round resort providing opportunities for all kind of sports including, football, tennis, swimming, volley ball and so on. For this purpose the investors will build numerous facilities and play grounds

The Super Borovets plan includes a construction of a new Gondola Station and improved snowboard runs - when completed the mega resort will benefit of 33 ski pistes with a length of more than 60 km, which is double than now.

This means that each hour ten thousand skiers can use the ski pists and the facilities

The new Gondola will also connect this part of the resort to the other pistes, Sokolets - Ivanov Kamyk - Marakudjitsite.

A new golf course is planned to be built at the foothills of the Rila Mountains revealing gorgeous views to the snow covered peaks.

The project aims to offer numerous tourism attractions for the development of permanent tourism in the region. The area of Borovets will become a year-round resort with modern technical facilities, information centres for tourists and a good transportation infrastructure. Special attention will be paid to hill walkers, extreme sports enthusiasts, horse- back riding trails, the development of eco- tourism, as well as hunting and fishing.

Main aim of the project is to achieve all this while preserving the nature clean and unique as it always has been.

Being so special Borovets has already attracted a lot of foreign investments. Many foreign citizens found their new homes in the area saying that there is nothing else they will change it with. Many others who have bought holiday apartments in the area use every opportunity to visit Bulgaria and enjoy everything that Borovets has to offer. People from Sofia consider the place a perfect chance to escape from the busy and stressful life in the capital and take advantage of this paradise place.
